Electricity: It is more than it seems

We started out today looking at this image and predicting which situations would light the bulb.  After testing in class, comment below your findings.  Be prepared to discuss your reasons if and when you are asked.
 In the drawing, we have a battery with a bare wire running from the negative pole of the battery to the positive pole of the battery.  The bare wire is then touching the threads of the bulb.  So, what do you think, will it light?  Why or why not?

    We found that in this diagram, the bulb will not ligt because the bottom of the bulb is not touching.

  10. Brooks- I think it will not light because it's half way and nothing is touching the bottom of the lightbulb. So the current will not flow through the light bulb.

    It will not light because the wire is not touching the thread and the bulb is not on the surface of the battery (positive or negative side)

    it is connected to both negative & positive
    ends of the battery & also the wire has to touch the thread in order for it to light up. :)

  18. Dustin- I dont think that it will not light because even tho the sides of the battery are touching the wire the bottom of the bulb also has to touch the battery (>^_^)>#<(^_^<)

  23. Jacalyn- The light bulb will not light unless you are connecting the bulb to the positive or negative part of the battery and then touching it with the wire

  39. Tabi- No the battery won't light because the bottom of the bulb needs to be touching the battery and the threads of the battery needs to be connected to the wire to allow the flow of electrical current.

  68. Jonathan. The bulb will light because both ends touch the side of the bulb where it needs to touch to light and it have both a positive and negative charge therefore it will light.

  84. Kristian- It will not light because the bottom part of the battery isnt properly touching any part of the light bulb, which is an incomplete circuit. Therefore, the energy in the wire will not be transferred to the light bulb.

    No, I don't think it will light because the bottom of the bulb needs to be touching the threads of the battery, which also need to be in contact with the wire and bulb to allow the electrical current to flow through the bulb.
